The GoBonnies.com Athletes of the Week presented by CPL for the week ending Oct. 6 are women's tennis freshman Amara Young and men's cross country senior William Delaney.
Young went 6-0 last weekend at the SBU Fall Classic, winning three singles matches and three doubles matches.
A native of Indianapolis, IN, Young kicked off her weekend by defeated Niagara's Sophia Gonzalez in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0. She followed that match with another singles win, this time taking down Salome Sarsalia from Roberts Wesleyan, 6-0, 6-0. For her third singles win of the weekend, she bested Megan Gamble of Niagara, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Young teamed with fellow freshman Amelia Haley. The duo beat Niagara's Andreca Peteu and Madigan Huminston, 6-1 and won their second match over Laura Freeman and Cara Graham from Roberts Wesleyan, 6-3. In their final match of the weekend, Young and Haley defeated Gamble and Gonzalez of Niagara, 7-5.
The Bonnies are back in action Oct. 17 at the ITA Regionals.
Delaney broke the St. Bonaventure 8K school record this past weekend at the Louisville Classic.
He shattered the 8K program record by taking advantage of the perfect conditions and a fast, flat course at Tom Sawyer Park, running the layout in a time of 25:36.6. That time easily eclipses what had previously been the program-best mark of 26:10.2 set by Nick Masiello six years ago.
Delaney, a native of Summit, N.J., now owns the Bonaventure 5K and 8K records - he broke the 5K record as a junior.
The Bonnies are back in action this Friday in Wilmington, Ohio.
