ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure student-athletes again delivered in the classroom during the fall semester – with a record success rate.
Bonnies recorded an average semester GPA of 3.302 during the fall. It marks the 27th consecutive semester that St. Bonaventure student-athletes have boasted a cumulative GPA of better than 3.0 – more than 13 straight years. Further, the cumulative team GPA for all 15 Bonnies teams is 3.320, the highest on record for the Athletics Department.
Thirteen St. Bonaventure teams finished the fall semester with a better than 3.0 average GPA, led by softball (3.629) and golf (3.573). Fourteen teams have overall cumulative GPAs of higher than 3.0.
St. Bonaventure has a record number of student-athletes – 343 – but the rise in athletes has coincided with an increase in academic success. For the fall semester, nearly 75 percent of student-athletes earned a 3.0 or better in the classroom and over 62 percent were members of the University Dean's List with a GPA above 3.25. Even more impressive, nearly half of the University's 343 student-athletes – 48 percent – finished the fall semester with a 3.50 GPA or better.
The tremendous returns from the fall just continue the trend for Bonnies student-athletes – 245 have a cumulative GPA above 3.0 for their academic careers and 204 are above 3.25.
"Our student-athletes want to be at the top of the class; that's just inherent in them," said Athletics Director Tim Kenney. "We have a higher number of student-athletes than ever, so to continue raising the bar is a testament to them, to the coaches and staff, and also to the partnership between Athletics and the faculty. Everyone is committed to our student-athletes' success and care about them as individuals."
