Six St. Bonaventure Teams Honored By NCAA For Academic Success

INDIANAPOLIS – Six St. Bonaventure University athletic programs have earned recognition from the NCAA by ranking in the top 10 percent of their respective sports in Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, officials announced Wednesday. The Bonnies teams honored for the 2014-15 academic year were: women's basketball, men's cross country, golf, women's soccer, women's tennis and softball.

Among Atlantic 10 institutions, only Davidson and Saint Joseph's had more programs earn public recognition. In all, 56 Atlantic 10 teams were recognized.

In the sports of women's basketball and softball, St. Bonaventure was the only Atlantic 10 program to be recognized by the NCAA.

The NCAA will release the full APR report on April 20, which will include the multi-year rates for all Division I teams.  Each year, the NCAA honors selects Division I teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR).  This announcement is intended to highlight Division I teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.  Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of every student-athlete on scholarship.  The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
