PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The St. Bonaventure men's and
women's cross country teams opened the 2009 campaign with ninth
place finishes, respectively, at the Duquesne Duals in Schenley
Oval on Saturday morning.
In the season opener, senior Michael Grosso paced the men's team
with a 77th place finish. Grosso crossed the finish line of the 8K
at 29:20, tying with Canisius runner Jake Ristevski.
Juniors Rob Ryer and Rahkeem Wright followed Grosso off the course,
clocking in at 29:32 and 29:54, respectively, notching 82nd and
85th.
First-year runner Adam McDermott followed right behind the duo
finishing in 94th. Junior Thomas Rosetti (31:30), senior Kevin
Kirby (31:58), junior Scotter Shelters (32:02 and sophomore Stephan
Ross (36:18) rounded out the men's finishes.
On the women's side, junior Caitlin Palmer paced the Bonnies coming
in at 23:30 for a 62nd place finish in the 5K. Fellow classmate
Chelsea Rashid ended a few steps behind Palmer, finishing at 23:43
in 64th. Sophomore Elizabeth Moran was hot on Rashid's heels
clocking in four seconds behind her for a 65th place finish.
Juniors Kimberly Fuller (24:10) and Tabitha Slachiak (24:19)
ended in 69th and 70th, respectively. Freshman Kimberly Burke
(26:06) made her debut for the Bonnies finishing in 77th. Lauren
Russo (26:14) rounded out the women's side with an 80th place
finish.
Both teams return to action next weekend at the Binghmaton
Invitational in Binghamton, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept. 12. Start time
is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
