Brossard Picks Up First Collegiate Win Against UTEP
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Freshman Marissa Brossard earned her first career win Friday afternoon as the women's tennis team opened the SBU Fall Classic on the outdoor courts against the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
Playing out of the No. 2 singles position, Brossard defeated Rebeca Calvillo in a three-set tiebreaker marathon – something perfectly fitting for the Marathon, Fla. native. After winning the first set, 6-4, Brossard dropped the second, 3-6, before battling back and winning a 10-8 set to clinch her first win.
Unfortunately for St. Bonaventure, that was the lone win of the match, as UTEP went on to win the rest of the singles matches and all the doubles.
The matches at the SBU Fall Classic do not count toward a team's overall record; however, individual matches count toward a player's record.
The Bonnies will be back in action on Saturday as they continue the SBU Fall Classic with a 2 p.m. match opposite Siena. For those unable to make it to the courts, live scoring of the match can be found here.
