Tennis Teams, Players Receive ITA All-Academic Honors

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named both the men's and women's tennis teams to the list of Division I All-Academic Teams for the 2010-11 school year, after both squads attained a team GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Individually, a trio of players from the men's team and two players from the women's team earned All-Academic honors on their own after receiving a GPA of 3.5 or higher last academic year.

On the men's side, 2011 graduates Enric Larregola and Mikhail Sudakov and junior Oscar Yanez received recognition. Both Larregola, a management science major from Spain, and Sudakov, an accounting major from Russia, earned Second Team Atlantic 10 honors last season, as the doubles team won 15 matches in their final season together. Sudakov added 10 singles wins in 2010-11, one of two Bonnies to do so.

Off the court, Larregola also earned Dean's List and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition in all eight of his semesters at the university under the guidance of head coach Mike Bates (pictured).

Yanez, a finance major from Mexico City, played in the No. 5 singles spot on a team that finished in sixth place at the Atlantic 10 Championship last April in Saint Louis. The men's team finished with a team GPA of 3.2 for the 2010-11 academic year.

On the women's side, senior Manuela Marin-Salcedo and junior Kathryn Kvas earned individual All-Academic honors.

Marin-Salcedo, a journalism and mass communication major from Miami, led the Brown and White with nine individual wins last season, while tallying seven victories with doubles partner Riley Archer.

Kvas, a journalism and mass communication major from Toronto, won nine singles matches in 2010-11, a mark that was tied for the team's best. The women's team concluded the 2010-11 year with a team GPA of 3.3, which ranked as the fourth-best team GPA of any club at St. Bonaventure.

The men's tennis team begins its 2011-12 campaign next weekend from Sept. 9-11 at the Navy Invite in Annapolis, Md., while the women's squad begins its season Sept. 16-18 by hosting the SBU Fall Classic.
