Whalen named to Academic All-Conference team

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure women's swimming senior Allison Whalen was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team on Thursday afternoon in voting conducted among the Conference's sports information directors.
Whalen, who made the Fall 2008 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, carries a 3.73 GPA in her Journalism and Mass Communications major.
Always a top swimmer in the butterfly and relay events throughout her four years with the Bonnies, Whalen concluded her career with a very strong showing in multiple events at this year's A-10 Tournament.
The West Seneca, N.Y. product, placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly championship heat with a season-best time of 56:45. Whalen also finished 11th in the 200-yard butterfly consolation heat with a time of 2:05.44, the top time registered by a Bonnie in the event all season.
Not only did Whalen have success in the butterfly events, she helped the Brown and White post a pair of top-10 finishes in relay events as well. Whalen swam a leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished eighth with a time of 1:37.01, a season-best for the squad. Whalen was also a part of the 800-yard freestyle relay that finished fifth overall with a time of 7:36.65.
The St. Bonaventure women's swimming and diving team finished its 2008-09 season with a sixth place finish at the A-10 Championships for the second year in a row.
