ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's swimming and diving team completed the win against two-time defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut in the two-day meet, 181.5-171.5 on Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center Pool.
The Bonnies finished day one of the meet ahead, 100-86.
"More than anything, our performances were pretty out-of-this-world for this time of year," said head coach Brian Thomas, who not only led his Bonnies to their first win of the 2016-17 season, but also earned his first as a head coach. "We have an excellent group of swimmers who are now beginning to realize just how good they are."
Action Saturday morning began with the 3-meter dive, in which Brittany Hart completed her sweep with a win in the event, pulling in a score of 234.38.
The Brown and White received another boost to its lead in the 100-IM as Devon McFadden and Alyssa Levac earned the top two spots in the event. McFadden finished first at 59.87 while Levac came in at 1:01.81.
Levac's strong swimming continued into the 100-butterfly. She earned the victory in the event, finishing at 58.32. Bridget Jordan tied for second place at 1:00.28.
The Bonnies earned their final victory of the day when they needed it most. Into the meet's last event, the score stood at 170.5-165.5 in favor of the Bonnies. The relay team of Kathryn Godlewski, Bridget Jordan, Theresa Hutton and Samantha Kuchinski came out on top with a time of 3:36.25 to secure the win.
"Once we got to the final relay, I was feeling pretty confident based on how we were swimming, and the girls really bought into that," Thomas said. "That relay represented the season so far. This team has thrown everything they have into all they've done, and I couldn't be happier with the way they've approached it so far."
