Bonnies Drop Series Finale To George Mason

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – McKenna Holtz smacked a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning, but the St. Bonaventure University softball team was defeated by George Mason 13-2 on Sunday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Bonnies fall to 8-24 and 1-10 in the Atlantic 10 and George Mason improves to 15-23 and 5-7 in A-10 play.

The Patriots struck first in the opening inning with two runs by way of an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

Holtz answered by blasting her second round tripper of the season over the left field fence, cutting the Patriot lead to 2-1.

George Mason added an insurance run in the second, fourth and fifth innings, pushing the lead to 5-1.

Mikayla Short pulled Bona back within three on an RBI single in the fifth that scored Emma Borysevicz.

An eight-run top of the seventh from the Patriots put the game out of reach.

Grace Van Horn started for the Bonnies, working four innings (10 H, 5 ER, 2 BB). Sydney Burk and Sam Wood each worked in relief to close out the game.

The Bonnies are back in action Wednesday on the road at Fordham for a mid-week Atlantic 10 doubleheader. Game one is slated for first pitch at 2:00 p.m.
