UMass Lowell Bests @BonniesSoftball in North Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to UMass Lowell today, 9-0, in its second day of action in the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Showcase at UNC Wilmington. 

The Riverhawks got off to an early lead and never looked back as they grabbed three runs in the top of the first and extended their lead with two more in the second to go up 5-0.

St. Bonaventure put together its first offensive attack in the fourth inning. Desiree Gonzalez led off the inning with a triple to left field, serving as the Bonnies' first hit of the game. Alexandra Piergustvo later singled, putting runners on the corners with one out. But, St. Bonaventure was unable to get the runner across.

Gonzalez's triple was her team-leading second of the season.

UMass Lowell grabbed four more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 9-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Emma Borysevicz reached on an error and Kelly Farrell singled, but the Bonnies failed to score, ending the game.

Rylee Hehir started and tossed four innings in the circle for the Bonnies and struck out two. Sam Wood came on and threw the fifth inning.

The Bonnies will play their final two games of the tournament tomorrow afternoon as they rematch with UMass Lowell at 9:00 a.m. and later take on Georgetown at 11:30 a.m.
