The St. Bonaventure Bonnies (0-1) fell in their season opener to the Pittsburgh Panthers (1-0), 10-0, in game one of the Mercer University Invitational.

Pittsburgh, a 2015 NCAA Softball Regional Qualifier, scored their 10 runs on 11 hits.

Down 4-0, the Brown and White had a chance to get on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Katie Sinclair led off the inning with a single, and Kelli Rohan eventually delivered a single of her own. But SBU was unable to bring a runner around.

The Panthers responded and broke the game open with a six-run performance in the bottom of the frame.  After RBI hits from Jenna Modic and Kaitlin Manu, Alexis Sloak hit a grad slam to put

Pittsburgh up 10-0, ending the game after five innings.

The Bonnies claimed four hits, all singles. Rohan, Sinclair, Mariella Ferrer and Kiera Lorenzo made up all four Bona hits.

Two different Bonnies toed the rubber. Josie Borysevicz started the game and went three innings. Borysevicz struck out two while surrendering four earned runs. Jasmine Petrishin threw the remaining 1.1 innings of the game.

The St. Bonaventure Bonnies (0-2) dropped game two of the double-header, falling 7-3 to the tournament host Mercer Bears (1-0).

The Bonnies got things going early offensively, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kelli Rohan led off the game with a walk and eventually moved up to second as Emily McDonough grounded out to the pitcher on the next at bat. Then, Emily Belfield came through with a single through the right side to send Rohan around to put the Bonnies on the board, earning their first run of the 2016 season.

Mercer answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the frame with a sacrifice fly, and the two teams went into the second inning locked at 1-1.

SBU would regain the lead again in the top of the third as Belfield drove home Rohan for the second time of the game. Rohan singled through the left side, and went on to steal second base. Belfield came to the plate and knocked a single up the middle to score Rohan to put the Brown and White up 2-1.

With a two-run homerun to left from Mercer's Emma Andrews, the Bears took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

The Brown and White tied it up in the top of the fifth. Belfield reached base on a fielder's choice, and came around to score on a double down the leftfield line from Katie Sinclair.

The Bears regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth and would not look back. They tacked on one more in the fifth, and a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth made it 7-3.

SBU loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, brining the tying run to the plate, but failed to score.

Carly Bilchak started the game in the circle for the Brown and White, and tossed five innings allowing four hits and as many earned runs while striking out one.

Kristen Hickling came in to pitch the sixth and surrendered three runs on four hits.

Kelli Rohan finished the game going 3-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Emily Belfield drove Rohan home both times. Katie Sinclair had an RBI and picked up two hits.

The Bonnies out hit Mercer, 9-8.
