Bona Falls To Saint Joe’s, Hurts Postseason Chances
PHILADELPHIA – The St. Bonaventure softball team (17-24, 6-11 Atlantic 10 Conference) fell to Saint Joseph's (19-27-1, 8-10-1 A-10) on Friday afternoon, 10-0 in five innings, severely hurting the Bonnies' postseason chances.
Bonaventure now needs to win each of its final three games (Saint Joseph's on Saturday and a doubleheader at Temple on Sunday) and get help in order to qualify for the six-team A-10 Championship next week at Saint Louis. The Bonnies need Charlotte to sweep a home doubleheader against Dayton on Saturday and have George Washington sweep a road doubleheader versus Saint Louis, also on Saturday.
The Hawks' bats were hot from the start against the Bonnies as they plated four runs in the 1st innings, two in the 2nd frame and four more in the 3rd to jump out to a 10-0 lead off Bona starter Jen Sansano.
Sansano (11-11) last just 2.1 innings and allowed all 10 runs before being relieved by Diana Phalon, who tossed 1.2 innings of two-hit softball.
At the plate, SBU was able to pound out just three hits – one each by Jessenia Andujar, Grace Rooney and Brittany Storch – against SJU starter Erin Gallagher. Gallagher is the Hawks' all-time win leader, picking up her 64th career victory on Friday.
The Bonnies will look to bounce back and remain alive for the postseason on Saturday in the series finale against Saint Joe's at Noon.
