Bona Hits The Road to Play Fordham and La Salle
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.- St. Bonaventure takes to the road this weekend for games Friday and Saturday at Fordham, and then will head to Philadelphia to take on La Salle for a doubleheader Sunday.
The
Bonnies enter this weekend with a 15-17 record overall, and sit at ninth place in the Atlantic 10 with a 4-6 record. SBU is led offensively by senior catcher Brooke Frey and sophomore shortstop Ashley Snider. In 31 games, Frey is batting a team-best .349, including two home runs and 10 RBI. The New Paltz, N.Y., native also leads the team in on-base percentage (.438) and doubles (seven).
Snider is only five points off the team lead in batting average at .344, but paces the Brown and White with four home runs, 15 RBI, and a .538 on-base percentage.
On the mound, Bona has received 66 percent of their wins from sophomore starter Jen Sansano. In 21 appearances, the East Amherst, N.Y., native sports a team-high 10 wins, 74 strikeouts, and a team-low 3.10 ERA.
On Tuesday, St. Bonaventure took on Little Three rival Canisius for a twinbill. The Bonnies took game one by the score of 6-3 behind a strong performance on the mound by Jen Sansano. The sophomore pitched a complete game allowing eight hits, one earned run, and struck out three. Bona dropped game two of the doubleheader, 8-0.
Friday's game with Fordham will be the first meeting between the two schools this year. Fordham currently owns a four-game win streak over the Brown and White dating back to the 2009 season. The Rams currently sit at second place with an 11-1 record in A-10 play, and have a 27-18 record overall. Freshman Paige Ortiz leads the team in most offensive categories. In 45 games, Ortiz is batting .309, and has a team-high 11 home runs, 37 RBI, and a gawdy .565 slugging percentage. On the hill, senior ace Jen Mineau leads the team with 21 wins, 302 strikeouts, 207.2 innings pitched, and sports a team-low 1.72 ERA.
After two games with Fordham, SBU hits the City of Brotherly Love for a Sunday doubleheader with La Salle. The Explorers are currently winless in A-10 action, and are in sole possession of last place. La Salle started off the month on a strong note wining three games in a row, but have since dropped eight straight dating back to April 4.
First pitch in the Bronx is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday.
