Softball Splits Home DH With Charlotte

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Playing in its first home games of the season, the St. Bonaventure softball team (11-18, 6-10 Atlantic 10) split a doubleheader with Charlotte (25-21, 9-5) at McGraw-Jennings Field on Friday.

Maureen Wells and Christine Watson had two-RBI doubles to right field to help the Bonnies plate three runs each in the first and fifth innings of a 6-3 win to cap the action in a rain-shortened six-inning game. Charlotte earned a pitcher's duel 1-0 win to start the day, with Charlotte's Kalie Lang (5-5) working a complete-game one hitter and St. Bonaventure's Jen Sansano (6-7) taking the loss after going the distance and striking out four.

After Jessenia Andujar put the Bonnies on the board in the second game with an RBI single to left, Watson doubled through the right side to bring home two more in support of junior pitcher Diana Phalon (4-7).

The 49ers' Tenaya Tucker had a double down the left field line that pulled Charlotte to within one, 3-2, in the fifth, before Wells answered the call to build the Bona lead. Lindsay Stowell drew a bases-loaded walk to put SBU up 6-2, before Charlotte's Chelsea Ingersoll trimmed the lead with an RBI single in the visitor's half of the sixth and the game was called due to rain.

St. Bonaventure returns to action at University of Buffalo on Wednesday.
