Softball Splits Doubleheader at Robert Morris
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure softball team (10-17) earned a split in its final non-conference twinbill, winning 7-3 in the first game before suffering a 12-9 loss in a darkness-shortened second game at Robert Morris (19-24) on Wednesday.
The Bonnies plated three runs in the first and freshman pitcher Jen Sansano (6-6) threw worked a complete game and struck out five as SBU picked up a comfortable 7-3 win to open the action.
Freshman Ashley Snider had a pair of three-run homers on the day, including a 2-for-3 effort in the first game. Brooke Frey was 2-for-2 with one batted in.
The Dukes jumped out to a commanding 11-0 lead after pushing across six runs in the third. Frey doubled to get the offense going in the fourth as the Bonnies scored four in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in sixth on Snider's blast. Still trailing, 12-9, after the Bona half of the sixth, the game was called due to darkness.
The Bonnies return to action on Friday to host Charlotte in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
