Home Runs, Sansano Power Softball To Victory Over Rhody
KINGSTON, R.I. – Maureen Wells hit a grand slam in the third inning and freshman Jen Sansano struck out a career-high eight batters over seven innings to power St. Bonaventure (7-11, 4-5 Atlantic 10) to a 5-0 win over Rhode Island (3-29, 0-9) Friday at the URI Softball Complex.
Wells cleared the bases with a homer to right center – her fifth of the year - to provide all the offense the Bonnies would need. Kara Morenus singled to right to load the bases after Hali Enderby drew a leadoff walk, advanced on Katie Taylor's sacrifice, and Lindsay Stowell was hit by a pitch.
Ashley Snider got the Bonnies started with fifth homer of the year with one out in the first, extending her team-best seven-game hit streak.
From the circle, Sansano (3-4) scattered seven hits and did not allow an earned run for the first time in her career.
The Bonnies wrap up the two-game set with Rhode Island at noon tomorrow, before traveling to Massachusetts for a doubleheader on Sunday.
