LAST TIME OUT
St. Bonaventure broke through with a 2-0 victory over Rhode Island Sunday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex. Bella May scored in the 11th minute for the early lead and Danielle Vis put the game away with another strike in the final minutes as the Bonnies improved to 1-3-2 in Atlantic 10 play this season.
NATIONAL HONORS FOR MALCOLM
This week has been one to remember for Bonnies sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm. On Monday, she was honored as the Atlantic 10 Defender of the Week for her 18 saves and back-to-back shutouts last week. Wednesday, she won a fan vote to be named the NCAA National Women's Soccer Player of the Week. She is believed to be the first Bonnies player to earn the honor of national player of the week.
ADDING TO THE CAREER TOTALS
While Danielle Vis scored her first goal of the year last Sunday, she was merely adding to what has been an impressive career for the Bonnies. The native of Ontario, Canada now has 14 career goals and a total of 38 career points, ranking 21st in program history. She's just one point away from breaking into the Bonnies career top 20.
ABOUT LA SALLE
La Salle leads the Atlantic 10 standings after a red-hot 6-0 start to league play. During that time, the Explorers have been emphatic in their success by outscoring A-10 opponents by a 24-4 margin. Madison Bower is the reigning A-10 Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four times with two assists in a pair of games as part of an often prolific offense that has scored a league-high 35 goals. Defensively the team has been impressive too: La Salle is second in the A-10 with nine shutouts on the year.
St. Bonaventure travels to VCU for a Sunday afternoon contest this weekend, the first of back-to-back road games. The Bonnies are at Duquesne on Thursday, Oct. 19 before returning home for the season finale on Sunday, Oct. 22 vs. Saint Joseph's.
