SMITHFIELD, R.I. – St. Bonaventure held a 10-3 edge in shots during the second half, but a late goal from host Bryant put the Bulldogs ahead where it counted, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon.
After heading to intermission in a scoreless tie, the two teams remained deadlocked until the final minutes. Finally, Brant would break through at the 76:22 mark after being awarded a corner kick.
The Bulldogs' corner went in front where Claire Bergh headed it in for what turned out to be the game's only score.
St. Bonaventure was able to create pressure during the second half, but could not find the back of the net. The Bonnies continued to challenge until the final buzzer as Sabrina Sousa-Sampson sent a shot on goal just one second shy of the whistle that was stopped by Bryant goalkeeper Meghan Dolton.
Bryant held a 19-15 overall edge in shots as Danielle Vis had the most shot attempts for the visitors with three.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm did her part in net with several impressive saves, finishing with five total for the day.
With non-conference play now complete, the Bonnies begin Atlantic 10 action Thursday at Saint Louis.
