BUFFALO, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team applied pressure late, but could not find the back of the net as host Canisius held on for a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon in non-conference play.

After a scoreless first half, Canisius (5-2) quickly struck following intermission. Melanie Linsmair scored in the 48th minute off a deflected corner for the 1-0 lead.

The Bonnies (0-6-1) finished with 10 shots on the afternoon, with much of that total coming in the waning minutes.

A corner kick from Danielle Vis resulted in a pair of shots – one by Sabrina Sousa-Sampson and another by Sydney Cerza – which were blocked by Canisius defenders 15 minutes shy of the final whistle.

In the final four minutes, Mariah Marrero had two chances – a shot that sailed wide in the 87th minute, then, the junior transfer placed a shot on net with 49 seconds to go. Her final effort was turned away by Canisius keeper Alana Rossi, however, who made the one goal lead stick.

Bonnies goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm made nine saves for the visitors. Marrero, Vis and Bella May all had two shot attempts apiece for SBU.

Bona is back in action Friday night vs. Buffalo at the Marra Athletics Complex. Action is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
