ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Visiting Kent State scored a 4-0 victory over the St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team Sunday afternoon in the home opener at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Kent State (1-2), the defending Mid-American Conference champions, got on the board just shy of the 10-minute mark when Donavan Capehart found Vital Kats for an open look at the top of the box. Kats buried her shot into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Golden Flashes added an insurance just before halftime as Cameron Shedenhelm received a corner kick eight yards in front, finishing with a nifty header for the goal. Two more tallies during the second half put the game out of reach.
The best opportunities for the Bonnies came during the second half. During the 54th minute, Gretta LaCouture lobbed a shot just over the crossbar. Fourteen minutes later, Sydney Cerza broke free on the far wing, firing a shot on the run just high.
In the 76th minute, Cerza played a through ball to Jessica Scruggs with the junior ripping a shot just past the right post.
Lauren Malcolm was frequently challenged during the day, making nine save for the Bonnies.
St. Bonaventure travels to Wright State on Thursday evening with game time scheduled for 7 p.m.
