RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Mirae Whitaker scored her first career goal, but the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team fell, 3-1, on Thursday night at Richmond.
The Spiders (9-8-1, 4-5-0 Atlantic 10) took the lead early, finding the net with the game's first goal during the ninth minute when Lexi Prillaman struck for the hosts. A free kick sent in from Jenna King led to a cross by Lindsay Belli that drew the Bona keeper out of the net. With the ball loose in front, Prillaman was able to punch it in for the 1-0 lead.
Prillaman doubled the Richmond lead with another goal in the 32nd minute, playing off a deflection with a shot inside the far post.
Just over four minutes later, the Spiders took a commanding lead with a score from Meaghan Carrigan who received a short ball from Brooke Beam five yards in front, sending her shot in to the left side of the net.
Whitaker gave the Bonnies some offense 82 minutes in when she received a high ball into the box from Jessica Scruggs. Whitaker was then able to tap the pass around the Richmond goalkeeper to put the visitors on the board.
Bona completes the regular season with a trip to Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
