ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – After a scoreless 90 minutes, Saint Louis broke through in overtime to come away with a 1-0 win over the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team in Atlantic 10 play Sunday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Kirsten Clemens came through the box on a contested ball in the 94th minute, blasting a shot inside the post for the game-winner and sent the Billikens home with the win.
Bona held its own against Saint Louis (12-2-1, 5-0-1 A-10) as both teams had strong opportunities early.
In the first minute, SLU's Maddie Pokorny placed a shot right on net that Lauren Malcolm turned away. Then, in the fifth minute, both Sydney Cerza and Mirae Whitaker had great chances for the Bonnies – Cerza blasted an effort that ricocheted off the Billikens keeper, allowing Whitaker to scoop up a rebound. Her shot forced the keeper to make a diving stop to end the threat.
Sabrina Sousa-Sampson had a pair of chances during the second half to break through for the hosts. During the 62nd minute, a right-footed shot 15 yards out rocketed over the net. Then, in the 83rd minute, a corner kick from Jennifer Morris in front went to Sousa-Sampson, but her header went just high.
Malcolm finished with four saves for the Bonnies (3-11-1, 0-6)
St. Bonaventure returns to action Thursday evening against Davidson with action slated to start at the Marra Athletics Complex beginning at 7 p.m.
