WASHINGTON, D.C. - George Washington found the back of the net in the 12th minute and added two tallies in the second half to register a 3-0 Atlantic 10 victory over the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team Sunday afternoon.
Lina Proska scored what turned out to be the game-winner with a goal at the 11:47 mark. Kate Elson dribbled into the box, making a short pass to Proska who finished for the 1-0 edge.
That score held until 62 minutes in when Brittany Cooper gave the Colonials some insurance with a laser shot into the top half of the net. GW added a third goal from Brooke Bean at 69:47.
It was another strong day defensively for the Colonials (7-4-0, 1-1-0 A-10) who entered the day as the A-10's stingiest defensive team while allowing less than one goal per game. Goalkeeper Miranda Horn, who leads the A-10 in most goalkeeping statistics this season, recorded the clean sheet with three saves in net.
Bella May fired three of St. Bonaventure's seven shots on the day, testing Horn twice with a pair of strikes on net.
Lauren Malcolm collected three saves for Bona (3-7-1, 0-2-0).
The Bonnies return to action at home Thursday night vs. Duquesne with a start time of 7 p.m. scheduled.
