AMHERST, Mass. – Massachusetts scored a pair of second half goals to defeat St. Bonaventure 2-0 in the Bonnies' final regular season game on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field.
St. Bonaventure completes its regular season with a record of 7-9-1 overall and 4-4 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. With 12 points in A-10 games, the Bonnies are in good position for a berth in the A-10 Tournament, but will need to wait for the results of other games played on Sunday to determine the final pairings and seeding.
Saturday, the teams played a scoreless first half before UMass, which had applied pressure on the Bonnies most of the game, broke through in the 69th minute. Jackie Bruno put a shot past Bona keeper Megan Junker to the far corner to make it 1-0.
The Minutewomen (3-3-2 A-10/7-8-3 overall) added an insurance tally in the 72nd minute off the foot of Megan Burke. UMass likely needed a victory over St. Bonaventure to remain in contention for the postseason.
St. Bonaventure was outshot 27-9 and UMass had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junker was credited with seven saves for the Bonnies.
The A-10 Tournament begins Nov. 7 on the campus of VCU in Richmond, Va.
