KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior Tori Burchett brought the Bonnies back from a late deficit, scoring two goals in the final 17 minutes to give St. Bonaventure a key 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Rhode Island Friday night.
After a scoreless first half, the senior Hinsdale, Ill. native notched the equalizer in the 73rd minute - just 3:10 after Rhody's goal - and netted the game-winner in the 87th.
"I'm extremely proud of our team for being able to come back on the road, down a goal with 20 minutes left," said Bona mentor Manoj Khettry following the game. "Tori has been, and continues to be one of the best players in the conference and she showed how important she is to our success with two goals tonight. But a number of other players really stepped up their play and helped us tonight when we weren't at our best and that has to continue if we are going to get back to the A-10 Tournament for a fourth consecutive year."
With the pair of goals, Burchett claimed the top spot on the team (5g, 1a) with 11 points and passed assistant coach Kerry O'Malley and Anne Sanders (45 points) for 14th place in the records books with 48 points for her career (19g, 10a).
Freshman Brittany Charles found Burchett for the tying goal, and Janelle Taylor slipped a ball past the URI keeper to Burchett for the clinching tally.
"So long as we can continue to find goals, we'll be fine," added Khettry. "I'm excited about the opportunity to play against (second-place Massachusetts) on Sunday and see how we stack up."
Game time is set for 1 p.m.
