ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The NCAA has awarded St. Bonaventure's Nicole Markert, a senior women's soccer player, as a recipient of one of its $7,500 postgraduate scholarships.
The NCAA awards just 29 scholarships nationally per gender and sport season to senior student-athletes who excel academically and athletically.
"Winning this award is a great honor and I am very grateful for the financial aid it will provide for me as I look to further my education," says Markert.
Over her four year career at St. Bonaventure the Russell, Ohio native posted a record of 33-29-1 with a program-record 17 shutouts.
As a senior, she broke the program record for shutouts in a season (six) and led the Bonnies to their first ever Atlantic 10 Tournament win. Markert received A-10 All-Academic and All-Tournament honors as a junior and CoSIDA/ESPN the magazine All District 1 Academic honors as a sophomore.
Markert plans to attend the University of Kentucky to pursue a master's degree and initial certification in Mathematics and Secondary Education.
