Bonnies season ends in A-10 Tournament loss

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - St. Bonaventure dropped its first-ever Atlantic 10 Tournament game, falling to top seeded Temple 16-11 on Friday at Geasey Field.

Temple opened up the contest with a 3-0 lead by the 27:42 mark. St. Bonaventure responded with a goal from sophomore Kelly Chevez. Junior Laura Spaulding added a goal to cut the Owls' lead to 3-2 with 22:16 remaining in the first half.

However, Temple scored the next three goals to take a 6-3 lead. Freshman Courtney Gibbons scored at the 10:05 mark to cut the lead to 6-4. The Owls then added four goals in the last eight minutes of the half to take the commanding 10-4 lead into the intermission.

Freshman Nicole Motondo opened up the second half scoring the first of her four goals.

However, the Bonnies would go 19 minutes without scoring as Temple increased its lead to 16-5.

A St. Bonaventure rally insued as freshman Sarah Dressler, sophomore Tracy Domm and Spaulding all scored goals. Motondo added two more, but it wasn't enough.

Temple, the No. 1 seed in the A-10 Tournament, has yet to lose an A-10 game all season. The Owls earned their fifth consecutive conference title. Temple stands 12-5 overall and 8-0 in the conference. The Owls advance to play the winner of the Massachusetts and Richmond game.

Motondo led the Bonnies with four goals. Dressler and Spaulding added two goals and two assists. Domm, Chevez and Gibbons each tallied one goal each. Senior Emily Lilyea added an assist in her final game.

St. Bonaventure finishes the season 12-5 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
