ORLANDO, Fla. – St. Bonaventure's women's lacrosse team lost its season opener to Florida Southern 17-7 on Monday night at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
Florida Southern, which is ranked in No. 10 in NCAA Division II, opened a 3-1 lead early and never trailed in the contest.
It was an 8-4 game at halftime. St. Bonaventure senior Lily Timlin scored three minutes into the second half to cut the Bonnies' deficit to 9-6, but the Mocs responded with five straight goals to push their lead up to 14-6.
Mikayla Place and LeighAnn Stauffer each scored a pair of goals to lead St. Bonaventure. Timlin, Gabrielle Bradley, and Scarlet Jaworski were the Bonnies' other goal scorers. Goalie Sara Schlagenhauf made 11 saves in the Bona net.
Lorianne Hoover led Florida Southern (1-0) with four goals.
St. Bonaventure, which is in Florida this entire week for spring training, will play Rollins (Fla.) this Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 7:00 at Disney.
