Bonnies Seek Road Victory at Canisius Wednesday

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team (2-1) looks to stay above .500 when they face local rival Canisius on the road today.

After losing to Ohio State at home Tuesday, the Bonnies seek to pad their undefeated (2-0) away record at Demske Sports Complex. First draw is set for 4 p.m.

After a stellar performance by sophomore goalie Karly Kocis, who stopped 15 shots against Ohio State, the team will need her presence in hopes of defeating the Golden Griffins for the first time in three seasons. Canisius has won the last two games in the series, defeating St. Bonaventure 11-8 in 2010 and 17-13 in 2011.

Senior attacker Danielle Drabin and sophomore attacker Erin Thomas lead the team in goals with eight so far this season.

Thomas also leads the team in points (10), shots (16), and shots on goal (12). The Rome, N.Y. native scored two goals apiece the past two contests at Detroit Mercy and at home against Ohio State.

While suffering two losses by a total of five points to No. 7 Vanderbilt and No. 15 Ohio State, Canisius (2-5) looks to end their five-game losing streak against the Bonnies.

Playing against Ohio State on March 18, the Griffs lost 14-11 without scoring a single goal for 32:51.

Leading the team was senior midfielder Megan Oosting, scoring five goals and adding eight draw controls – one shy of her school record. She earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors with her performance against the Buckeyes and two goals and four draw controls against Cornell.

The Bonnies will also need to keep tabs on senior attacker Carly Quinn, who recorded four points, netting one and assisting on three against Ohio State. The senior is currently tied for the team lead with 22 points on 10 goals and 12 assists this season. Her 1.71 assists per game lead all players in the MAAC.

In 10 all-time meetings between the two rival schools, the Bonnies holds a 7-3 advantage against the Griffs. Overall, Canisius is 3-4 all-time against the Bonnies at the Demske Sports Complex.
