ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Ohio State's Alayna Markwordt tallied five goals and passed out five assists as No. 12 Ohio State (7-1) rallied behind eight unanswered goals in a 15-8 win over St. Bonaventure (2-1) on Monday.
Danielle Drabin netted the game's first goal, helping the Bonnies keep pace with the Buckeyes through the early going. Trailing just 5-4 after Markwordt dished off one of her five assists, the Bonnies had a would-be tying goal called off with under four minutes to go in the first half.
Ohio State, winners of consecutive games after a loss to No. 14 Notre Dame, capitalized to score twice on failed clears in the SBU end, both in the final two minutes of the half. The Buckeyes picked up where they left off in the second, rallying behind five unanswered in the first 10 minutes of the period and building a lead as large as nine, 14-5, on Markwordt's tally with 6:05 to play.
Erin Thomas (2g) and Drabin (1g, 1a) collected two points apiece for SBU. Daisy Timlin, Tohnie Smock, Marybeth Madia and Emily Kane also scored for Bona while Karly Kocis stopped 15 shots.
The Bonnies travel to local-rival Canisius (2-5) for a 4 p.m. start on Wednesday and will return to McGraw-Jennings Field Mar. 30 against Temple in its Atlantic 10 opener.
NOTES: The lacrosse contest was the first played on McGraw-Jennings field since April 18, 2010 … Ryan Lynn, the ninth youngest head coach in Division I, suffered his first loss on the Bona sidelines … Kocis was one off her career-high 16 saves set last season … Six of the Bonnies' 11 points came from players who did not start.
