Bonnies win second straight with victory at Detroit Mercy
The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team improved their record to 2-0 with a 16-10 win at the Detroit Mercy Titans on Sunday.
The Bonnies scored the first three goals of the contest on strikes by senior attacker Danielle Drabin and two by sophomore attacker Erin Thomas. Detroit Mercy scored four consecutive goals, taking a 4-3 lead. A Thomas goal to tied the score.
After the Titans took a 5-4 lead, the Brown and White evened up the game on a Drabin goal. St. Bonaventure reclaimed and the lead on two Thomas goals. Detroit Mercy pulled within one, but the Bonnies closed the first half on a goal by freshman midfielder Mackenzie Jordan to give the team an 8-6 halftime lead.
The Brown and White scored four straight times to start the second half on goals by Drabin, senior attacker Emily Kane, sophomore attacker Lauren Michaels and senior defender Daisy Timlin. After the Titans made a comeback effort with three straight goals, Jordan and Timlin scored their second goal to give St. Bonaventure a 14-9 lead. Following a Detroit Mercy goal, the Bonnies capped off the scoring with goals by Kane and Michaels to complete the victory.
Thomas scored five goals and Kane recorded three assists in the game. Through two games, Drabin leads the team with seven goals. She and Thomas share the team lead in scoring with eight points each. Kane's three assists lead the team.
The Bonnies will host Ohio State Monday March 19 at 3 p.m. at McGraw-Jennings Field in the team's home opener.
