Keeping In Touch With Erica Schiefen - Entry Three

Nov. 10, 2006

This past week we had our first chance to get on our floor in uniform to play in an exhibition game against Mercyhurst College. It was a doubleheader with our men's team so it made the atmosphere of the Reilly Center very exciting. We played very well and finished with an 87-47 win. Every person on the team contributed something positive. It was a good confidence booster for us before we start the season and provided us with a good assessment of what we are capable of this season. The freshmen played very well, which was nice to see in their first game and the returners all showed improvements from last season. My great-grandma, who was in attendance for the game, said, "It was the best game she ever saw." I was glad that my team was able to put on such a good performance for her that day.

Tomorrow our games officially get underway! The Bonnies and I will host our home-opener against Siena College. We are looking for a chance to avenge a loss at their court last year and to start off the season on the right foot. I can not wait! I love the Reilly Center on game days: the sight of all the bleachers pulled out, the smell of the popcorn, my team in our warm-ups, just everything. Every chance to play, especially at home is so exciting! You put all of the hard work into every practice and workout so you can have the chance to get that W. I love the feeling of winning so hopefully I will get a chance to feel it this Saturday against Siena.

Saturday is going to be an extra special day because after the game my team and I get to get all dressed up and join the men's basketball team at our annual Athletics Tip Off Gala. The Gala is an enjoyable evening that the school and community host as a chance for some the people in the community to get to know the basketball teams better and it also serves as a fundraiser for St. Bonaventure Athletics. We get a good dinner, good company, and good dancing. It really is a nice night and my team really enjoys it.

We also have our first road game in the coming week at Niagara University on Tuesday night. It is always a good game with Niagara because they are one of our closest rivals and we know each other well. My teammate Katelyn and I got a chance to play with some of the Niagara girls at Empire State Games this summer and their head coach, Bill Agronin, was our assistant coach for the Games. We are excited to get to see them again and, of course, to compete against them. That should be a good game and another chance for the Bonnies to show what we can do before coming to Elmira for the tournament. All of this talk about games is making me anxious to come home for the St. Bona Shootout ... only 8 more days!

Go Bonnies!
