Student-Athlete Spotlight - Feb. 22

Senior Stefanie Collins has played over 50 games on the Reilly Center, but will take part in the final home game of her career on Friday against Richmond. Collins talks about her experiences during her four years in the brown and white.

What do you want to be remembered for?

STEF: I think no matter what, always stepping on the floor and competing no matter if it was practice or a game. Just showing a passion for the game and always wanting to play."

You've played in over 100 games in your career and have seen it all, what do you want to pass along to your teammates?

STEF: "That you always have to keep battling regardless of what situation you're in and that you've got to go out there in give everything you have. I've been a part of the ups and downs, and I've learned a lot from those times."

Has there been a player that you model your game after or that inspired you?

STEF: "I used to watch Steve Kerr play all the time. He was this little guy who always seemed to make the big shot down the stretch and that's what I want to do."

What was your most memorable game at the Reilly Center? What was your favorite game?

STEF: "My most memorable game was my freshman year when we beat Temple and my favorite was at Stony Brook when I scored 36. That game it just seemed like I couldn't miss."

Why do you wear No. 21?

STEF: "When I was in eighth grade I was moved up to varsity and being the youngest player on the team I got to pick my jersey last. The only numbers left when it was my turn was 21 and 53 so it was an obvious choice."

Of all the accolades and awards you've gotten in your career, which one means the most to you?

STEF: "Probably being named part of the All-Academic team. Even though you're here to play basketball, you're also here to get an education and fulfill that commitment as well."

On and off the court, what has coach Crowley taught you?

STEF: "Just to keep fighting. I know that he still has the same passion for the game since I came here and he wants what's best for all of us. Just to see that he cares so much about something and puts a ton of time and effort into it really inspires you."

Your parents come to every home game and a lot of your road games. What does it mean to you to have them there?

STEF: "My parents are great. Ever since my freshman year they've made almost every home game not matter what kind of weather is out there. It means a lot to me for them to be there and support me, and I know if means a lot to them to watch me play."

What are your plans after graduation? Do you want to play, coach, or teach?

STEF: "I'd like to do them all, but my first priority is to find a place overseas to play. I'm not ready to hang up the sneakers yet, but if nothing comes out of that maybe getting into some coaching and going to Grad. School."
