RICHMOND, Va. – A friendly bounce that saw her corner trey attempt jump high in the air hitting the rim before falling in was the difference for Nyra Williams and VCU as the Rams held off the St. Bonaventure women's basketball team in overtime, 77-75.

Senior Mariah Ruff had her third 30-point game of the season, finishing with 30 points and nine assists including six treys of her own. Mckenna Maycock posted 15 points and eight rebounds while freshman Emily Calabrese delivered a career best 11 rebounds.

Bona led for much of the overtime period, but could not prevail in the final minutes. St. Bonaventure held a 72-69 lead with 2:35 left in the extra time, but the Rams would hold the Bonnies scoreless until a corner trey from Ruff with two seconds to go to cut the deficit from five to two.

The Bonnies opened strong with their first four field goals coming from long range – one each by Arielle Harvey, Mariah Ruff, Mckenna Maycock and Danielle Migliore – for a 12-4 lead halfway through the first quarter.

Bona led for the entire opening quarter and took a 19-15 edge into the second period. VCU would start the second strong, though, opening the quarter on a 14-4 run to take their first lead of the game.

A counter attack from the Bonnies to finish the half sent the teams to intermission with the Rams holding a narrow 36-35 edge.

A pair of free throws from Harvey started the second half scoring and put the Bonnies back on top by a point. That lead would be short-lived as the Rams immediately responded to take a 47-40 advantage.

VCU grabbed its largest lead at 54-46 with 3:31 remaining in the third before the Bonnies began to rebound.

Bona's leading scorers on the season, Ruff and Maycock, began to establish themselves as the third quarter came to a close and the fourth quarter began. A straight away trey from Maycock tied the game, 58-58, then a step-back 3-pointer from Ruff pushed the Bonnies ahead, 62-60, with 5:40 to play.

The seesaw battle continued with the Rams pushing back in front before Ruff stepped up again, drilling a trey on the right wing with a defender's hand in her face for the 67-67 tie with 2:30 remaining.

The tie would hold until the 28-second mark, when VCU freshman Tera Reed delivered a running one-handed layup under the basket for the lead, 69-67.

After a Bonnies timeout, Ruff worked free around the VCU defense, racing down an open lane for the lay-in and another tie with 11.9 seconds to go. A defensive stop from the Bonnies forced overtime.

The Bonnies led, 72-71, before Williams took advantage of an offensive rebound and worked free in front of her own bench. Her attempt caught iron, then fell in with 40 seconds to go and ultimately handed the Rams the win as a defensive stop and free throws iced the game.

St. Bonaventure played under the guidance of assistant coach Andrea Mulcahy as head coach Jesse Fleming was forced to miss the game due to illness.

The Bonnies return home to face Richmond on Wednesday night. Wednesday will be the Bonnies' annual Pink Game at the Reilly Center. Cancer survivors will receive free admission and a Pink Game T-shirt while family members receive $3 admission. The first 200 fans will receive a pink pom-pom courtesy of Olean General Hospital and Pink Game T-shirts will be on sale for $10 with $5 of every sale going toward OGH and local cancer care.
