SOUTH BEND, IND. -- Freshman Mason Kimbell led the way for the St. Bonaventure men's cross country team in the five-mile varsity race while sophomore Mark Vaccaro paced the Bonnies in the open race Friday at the National Catholic Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
Kimbell turned in an impressive performance in just his second collegiate invitational, finishing 57th in the field of 85 Division I runners with a time of 27:40.9. Finishing close behind was sophomore William Delaney, who finished the five-mile course in a time of 28:04.6. Kimbell and Delaney put up average mile times of 5:32 and 5:40 respectively.
The Bonnies finished 11th with 299 team points.
In the five-mile open race, Vaccaro came across the finish line at the 30:14.8 mark, 49th out of 67 runners. Finishing right behind him was freshman Luke Gobel, who finished with a time of 30:51.4. Senior Matthew Bacher clocked in with a time of 31:33.0 for 53rd place.
Next up for the Bonnies is the Harley F. Anderson Invitational at Matt St. James Cross Country Trails in Rochester, N.Y. on Sept. 23.
