BUFFALO, N.Y. — Jimmy Burton (26:47) and Elizabeth Moran (21:02) recorded new personal records to lead the St. Bonaventure men's and women's cross country teams at the Little Three Championships at Delaware Park on Saturday.
"The team is moving forward in their development as individual runners," said first year head coach Bob Macfarlane. "Practices have been very productive with consistency and effort, thus the results in meets are coming to fruition."
Burton lowered his previous best time, set two weeks ago in the first race of the year, by 16 seconds on the 8k course to earn eighth place overall among the 27 entrants from Canisius, Niagara and St. Bonaventure. He has been the Bonnies' top finisher in each race this season and led a pack of four from St. Bonaventure who finished 18th through 21st. Rahkeem Wright (29:52) led the group and collected 18th, while Scott Shelters (29:59), Kyle Wilkinson (30:22) and Adam McDermott (30:27) were just behind. The Bonnies were third in the team standings behind Canisius and Niagara, respectively.
Moran led the Bonnies on the women's 5k race for the third consecutive week by earning 13th in the 24-runner field. Christiana Sirni (21:21) placed 14th, while Tiffany Barkley (21:32), Kimberly Fuller (21:40) and Tabitha Slachciak (23:08) rounded out the scoring lineup. Canisius took first place ahead of Niagara, while St. Bonaventure collected third.
The Bonnies race again next weekend at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
