Yanez, Fanshel Complete Play At ITA Regionals
ITHACA, N.Y. – Two men's tennis team members took part in the ITA Men's Northeast Regionals at Cornell University Oct. 14-15, concluding the fall schedule for 2011-12 season. Junior Oscar Yanez and sophomore Elliot Fanshel represented the Brown and White, completing against some the Northeast's best Division I tennis players.
The single-elimination competition included a 64-team doubles tournament and a 128-member singles tournament. The matches counted toward the player's individual records, but not towards the team's overall record.
Teaming together for the first time this season, Yanez and Fanshel lost their Friday, Oct. 14 first round doubles match, 8-1, to Brown University's Tom Deighton and Dan Hirschberg. Fanshel won his opening-round singles match, 6-2; 6-2, against Marco Neves of the University of Hartford on Friday, Oct. 14.
The victory improved Fanshel's singles record to 4-5. Fanshel lost to Harvard College's Jonathan Pearlman in the Round of 64 on Saturday, Oct. 15, 6-1; 6-3.
When the season resumes in the spring, the Bonnies will travel to face Penn State University on Jan. 28, 2012. The team will host Youngstown State University in their spring home opener on Feb. 4. The club will begin to face Atlantic 10 Conference rivals in the spring, leading up to the A-10 Championship April 13-15.
