VESTAL, N.Y. - Back in the water for its first meet since December 8, the men's swimming and diving team suffered a 165-135 loss on Saturday against Binghamton. However, in his first meet as a Bonnie, freshman David Kundzik made an immediate impact.
Kundzik won both the 50-yard freestyle (21.81) and 100-yard butterfly (51.56). In the 200-yard medley relay, Kundzik teamed with seniors Roman Margulis and Scott Jordan along with junior Chris Happel to win the event in a time of 1:37.15.
Freshman Kevin Murphy was victorious in two events for the Brown and White. Murphy won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a Bonaventure season-best time of 9:58.88, followed in second place by senior James Wood (10:06.69). Murphy captured gold in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.32, while freshman Santiago Castaneda finished third (4:57.75).
Margulis and Happel swam to the two top finishes in the 200-yard butterfly, with respective times of 1:57.67 and 1:58.97.
Jordan finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.68) and Robinson placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (49.32).
In the 200-yard IM, Margulis captured silver, posting a time of 1:57.82. Sophomore Mariusz Michalik claimed silver in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.75).
On the boards, senior CJ Maurer earned silver in one-meter diving action with a score of 269.85. In three-meter diving, Maurer finished second with a score of 290.02, while junior Jonathan Larson finished third (269.77).
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Robinson, Henahan, Wood and Kundzik finished second with a time of 3:13.69.
Wood earned bronze in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.96).
St. Bonaventure is now 3-4 on the season. The team's next meet is Jan. 26 at Georgetown at 6 p.m.
