AKRON, Ohio - The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team finished in second place on the final day of the Zippy Invite behind a strong performance in the 200 backstroke.
The Bonnies finished the weekend with 1,368.5 team points, behind only Oakland which had a total of 2,119.5 points to capture the overall win. Niagara (1,197 points), Clarion (1,165) and Bloomsburg (1,145) rounded out the field.
The Brown and White secured three of the top five spots in the 200 backstroke. Freshman Tjaard Krusch placed second with a time of 1:49.91 and senior Matt Taccard took third by finishing in a time of 1:51.59. Maciej Danilewski rounded out the top five by swimming a time of 1:52.79.
Ben Galinski got the day started for the Bonnies swimming in the 1650 freestyle, finishing in eighth place by ringing in a time of 17:00.83. Jordan Powers took 10th place in the 100 freestyle for St. Bona with a time of 47.13.
Rounding out the meet in the 400 freestyle relay, the team of David Shakhnazarov, Krusch, Powers and Taccard finished third by swimming a time of 3:05.82. Robert Marshall, Logan Hellwig, Joseph Malafronte and Marcus Swartfager would finish in fifth place at 3:10.38.
The Bonnies are off until after the holidays when they welcome Binghamton to the Reilly Center Pool on Jan. 13.
