@BonniesMSwim defeats LaSalle at Spire Institute
GENEVA, Ohio - The St. Bonaventure men's swimming & diving team defeated LaSalle 207-125 at the Spire Institute on Saturday.
The highlight of the day was the time of 44.09 that Viacheslav Shchukin
recorded in the 100 yard freestyle. That time currently ranks Shchukin 7th in the country.
The Bonnies started the meet strong with first and second place finishes in the 400-yard medley relay. Vastslav Lets, Matthew Schutt
, Ripley Danner
and Jimmy Martin
came in with a time of 3:29.21 to clinch a gold medal. The sliver was awarded to Matt Rochna, Michael Burud, Michael White
and David Paccapaniccia
with a time of 3:32.75.
Lets led St. Bonaventure with two first place and one second place wins. Coming in with a time of 52.45 in the 100-yard backstroke and 1:52.95 in the 200-yard backstroke which where both good for first place finishes. In the 500-yard freestyle Lets came in second with a time of 4:38.15. Followed by his teammate Mike Hartwell
who came in third with a time of 4:52.56.
Martin finished strong for St. Bonaventure with a first place win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.25) and a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.18).
won the silver in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.52, shortly followed by Schutt who had a time of 2:12.45. Schutt also had a third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.98.
SBU had a solid finish in the 200-yard butterfly, with Rochna coming in first with a time of 1:55.14. White trailed his teammate with a time of 1:57.40 to clinch a second place finish.
In diving action Alex Marra
came up strong for the Bonnies. He placed first in the 3-meter with a score of 232.88 and second in the 1-meter with a score of 208.43. Keanue Carter
ended the day with a pair of third place finishes in the 1-meter (175.88) and the 3-meter (182.48)
White, Danner and Michael Pilyugin
all had first place finishes on the day. White in the 200-yard IM (1:55.89), Danner came in strong in the 100-yard butterfly (51.53) and Paccapaniccia in the 50-yard freestyle (21.57).
Roncha ended the day with a third place finish in the 100-yrad butterfly with a time of 52.53.
The 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.85) and the 200-yard medley (1:37.51) both ended in first place points for The Bonnies.
St. Bonaventure will be in the pool again on Friday, Nov. 8th at Cleveland State.
