Men's swimming falls to Pitt 159-139
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The men's swimming team fell to Pitt 159-139 Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center pool. Despite the loss, the team had solid performances all around.
Senior Mariusz Michalik highlighted the meet, winning three first place spots for the Brown and White. Michalik took the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.13. He also took the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.00 in front of teammate sophomore Mike Dansa (2.11:40). Michalik finished with a first place time in the 200-yard IM (1:57.17), touching just before teammate Yi Lui (1:58.31).
The men's 200-yard medley relay also took first for St. Bonaventure. With a combined effort, freshman Peter Koenig, Michalik, junior Dawid Kundzik and junior Jared Robinson took the win with a time of 1:35.28.
Picking up another first-place finish for the Bonnies was Kundzik in the 50-yard free with a time of 21.53. Kundzik also took third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.28.
The freshman helped out the Bonnies with Ethan Rowan and Elias Homerin picking up first and third place finishes. Rowan took first in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 9:44.24 and first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:44.80. Elias Homerin took third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.42.
Juniors Chris Baker and Robinson picked up individual second place finishes. Baker finished second in the 200-yard freestyle touching the wall at 1:45.57 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.26. Robinson took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.05.
The men's 400-yard freestly relay team took another second place finish for the Bonnies with Baker, Robinson, Kundzik, and Dansa closing out the race with a total time of 3:08.78.
The Bonnies next meet is scheduled for Nov. 7 at the Reilly Center pool when they host Duquesne and LaSalle beginning at 10:30 am.
