Men's swimming hosts Penn State

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The men's swimming team fell to Penn State 140-97 this afternoon at the Reilly Center Pool. Despite the loss, the team had solid performances from its returners and newcomers.

Freshman Mike Murphy highlighted the meet, taking first place in both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. He just missed making the qualifying meet for the men's NCAA qualifier in the 3-meter with a score of 303.53. Junior Trevor Herzog took second in the 3-meter with a score of 247.05. Murphy scored a 271.05 in the 1-meter taking first over Penn State's Alex Machinski (224.48) while Herzog took third in the 1-meter with a score of 222.15.

The men's 200-yard medley relay also took first for St. Bonaventure. With a combined effort, Peter Koenig, Marius Michalik, Dawid Kundzik and Jared Robinson took the win with a time of 1:35.95.

Kundzik also received individual first and second place finishes in his events. Kundzik took first in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 21.60 and second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.90 in front of teammate Robinson (48.01).

The Brown and White's 200-yard freestyle relay team picked up a second place finish with Robinson, Francisco Nieves, Mike Dansa and Chris Baker closing out the race with a total time of 1:26.66.

The freshman helped out the Bonnies with Ethan Rowan and Elias Homerin picking up second and third place finishes. Rowan picked up a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 1000-yard freestyle with times of 4:46.65 and 9:47.89, respectively. Homerin took third in the 200-yard butterfly clocking in at 1:58.66.

The Bonnies next meet is scheduled for Saturday at the Reilly Center Pool when they host Pittsburgh. The diving portion of the meet starts at 10 a.m. with swimming starting at 4 p.m.
