ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A late second half flurry from visiting Fordham sent the Rams to a 2-0 victory over the St. Bonaventure men's soccer team in rainy conditions Wednesday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Fordham (8-3-2, 2-1-1 Atlantic 10) struck in the 74th and 77th minutes to break what was scoreless draw. The first goal came off a set piece for the Rams. Following a corner kick by Janos Loebe, Matthew Lewis came through on a header for the 1-0 lead.
Just three minutes later, Loebe found the back of the net himself after dribbling through the middle of the box, shooting to the upper part of the net for the score.
An evenly played first half passed without many strong opportunities for either side. In the 25th minute, Kosi Nwafornso fired a turnaround cross to Kieran Toland whose shot was blocked just outside the goal area.
Bonnies keeper Luke Iacobellis kept things scoreless with a nice save on a shot right on into the center of the net from Fordham in the 32nd minute as well.
Iacobellis' best work came in the 61st minute. Following a volley in the box, Fordham's Connor Defillipis roped a shot to the far post that forced a diving, one-handed stab from Iacobellis that he punched away through traffic.
Fordham finished with a 9-8 edge shot in total shots while St. Bonaventure earned four corners to the Rams' three.
Next up for the Bonnies are back-to-back road games, first at Dayton on Saturday before a trip to Duquesne next Wednesday as Atlantic 10 play continues.
