@BonniesMSoccer Opens Atlantic 10 Schedule At Rhode Island

The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team opens its Atlantic 10 schedule on the road at Rhode Island Wednesday night. The Bonnies are coming off a 1-0 victory against St. Francis (Pa.) where Kosi Nwafornso scored the game winner in the 83rd minute.

Rhode Island is entering Wednesday's contest with a record of 5-2-2 and 1-0 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams opened their A-10 schedule with a 2-1 victory over George Washington, and are currently on a two game win streak. Junior forward Chae Brangman leads the team in goals (5) and points (11), he also has four game-winning goals this season. Sophomore defender Peder Kristiansen has five assists, which leads the team.

The last time the Bonnies and the Rams met was Oct. 28, 2012, when the Rams scored a 4-1 win. Rhode Island leads the all-time series with a record of 14-5-0. The last time the Bonnies defeated Rhode Island was on Sept. 28, 1997 when the Bonnies won 2-1 in double overtime.

Junior forward Kosi Nwafornso has been on a tear in recent games. The native of Nigeria, has scored in three of the last four games accumulating six points in that span. Nwafornso leads the team in goals (4), points (9), shots (25), and shots on goal (17). He scored his first game-winning goal of the season against St. Francis (Pa.), which was the second of his career. Nwafornso's four goals this season rank tied eighth in the Atlantic 10.

St. Bonaventure sits at 4-4-2, with notable wins coming over Albany and St. Francis (Pa.). The win over Albany came when the Great Danes were receiving votes in the NCAA Top 25 national rankings. St. Francis (Pa.) Red Flash were on a three game win streak when the Bonnies defeated them Saturday. The Bonnies finished with their best record in non-conference play since 2013 when they started 6-3-1.

This season the Bonnies have saved their best moments for late in the game. St. Bonaventure has scored six of its 11 goals in the 80th minute or later. Paul Afful, Kieran Toland, Remi Dujardin, and Kosi Nwafornso have all accounted for these goals.

Up next for the St. Bonaventure men's soccer team returns home after four games away from its home field. The Bonnies will play host to Davidson in their second Atlantic 10 game of the season Saturday, Oct. 7 with the match set to start at 3:00 p.m.
