EDINBURG, Texas – St. Bonaventure University men's soccer players Paul Afful and Kieran Toland each were named to the UTRGV Invitational All-Tournament Team following their strong play over the weekend.
Both players tallied a goal and an assist each during a pair of matches over the weekend at the tournament hosted by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Afful, who was also named Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week last week, scored the game-tying goal to force overtime late in regulation of St. Bonaventure's 1-1 draw with host UTRGV Friday night. He took a free kick from Toland and delivered a beautiful header over the shoulder of the goalkeeper with less than a minute to play and the Bonnies down a goal.
On Sunday, Afful added an assist by coming through with the helper on Toland's first goal of the year. At the 83:24 mark of Sunday's contest, Afful blasted a corner kick to Toland who found the back of the net for the equalizer.
Through four games, Afful has three goals and two assists for a total of eight points. Toland was in his first action of the season after missing the first two contests due to injury.
St. Bonaventure (2-1-1) hosts a weekend twinbill at the Marra Athletics Complex, first welcoming rival Canisius on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the home opener and then playing Albany Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
