UNION, N.J. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team fell to NJIT, 4-1, Saturday in a non-conference match at Kean Alumni Stadium.
NJIT struck first just 1:15 into the game as Danny Cordeiro received a pass from Mamadau Guirassy and found the back of the net.
The Highlanders got their second goal of the game at the 22:37 mark as Phillip Costa shot it past a diving Iacobellis, off the right post and into the goal. The 2-0 NJIT lead would hold into halftime.
But NJIT would soon gain back the two-goal deficit at the 56:11 mark as Guirassy logged his seventh goal of the season to push the score to 3-1.
The Highlanders then extended their lead to 4-1 at the 60:03 mark as Cordiero scored his second goal of the game for seven points on the day. The 4-1 mark would eventually serve as the final score.
Sophomore keeper Luke Iacobellis made the start in net for the Brown and White and was relieved by Alex Olday at the 68:30 minute mark in the second half. Iacobellis made two saves and Olday stopped one NJIT shot.
Bonaventure Akinlosotu made his first start of the season.
Afful's assist served as his first point of the season.
Richards was able to score having only recorded five shots prior to today's game.
St. Bonaventure will have a week off before concluding its 2016 regular season at Fordham on Saturday, Nov. 5.
