#Bonnies Williamson to play for U.S. Under-20 men’s rugby

St. Bonaventure University's Jaret Williamson has been selected to the United States National Under-20 men's rugby team.

Williamson, a business major from Olmsted Falls, Ohio, just finished his freshman year at SBU, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors. He was a star rugby player at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio.

The 28-man American team will travel to Edmonton, Alberta, on June 6 for a week of training before playing Canada's U20 team June 13 and 17 in the World Rugby U20 Trophy qualifier series at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

"I never expected any of this to happen when I started rugby in high school, but I was fortunate enough to have excellent coaches throughout my career and people around me that helped me to grow as a rugby player," Williamson said.

Once the Canadian and American teams play, the team with the best combined score will travel to Uruguay in South America to compete for the Junior World Cup trophy in late August.

"Jaret's earned this opportunity and I know that he will represent our program well," said Andrew Tui Osborne, SBU's men's rugby coach. "His experience on tour will be valuable for our program."

This is not the first time this year that Williamson has been recognized for his rugby skills. He was named to the All-Rugby East team by D1A Rugby in December and attended the Rugby Junior All-American Trials with sophomore scrum half Eamonn Matthews.

"I hope to learn more and more so that I can continue to grow as a rugby player and bring it back to my team at St. Bonaventure," Williamson said. "It is an honor to be able to represent my family, my university and the United States. I am grateful to have been given this opportunity, which has and will continue to open up even more opportunities in the rugby world for me."
