April 6, 2003
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The St. Bonaventure golf team tied for 16th place out of 20 teams at the Naval Academy Spring Invitational, which was completed on Sunday, April 6.
The Bonnies shot a four-man team score of 320 in Sunday's second round at the par 71 Naval Academy Golf Course for a two-round total of 625, tied with Colgate.
Host Navy overcame an 11-shot deficit with a second round 287 and tied Johnson & Wales (Fla.). The Midshipmen then won the tournament in a playoff. Georgetown finished third at 583 followed by Towson (586), perennial NCAA Div. III power Methodist (N.C.) and Charleston Southern, both at 592.
Lindell was the Bonnies' low man for the 36-hole tournament with a total of 152, good for a tie for 38th place in the field of 115. Tracy tied for 56th place at 156 while Thomas finished in a tie for 64th at 157.
"This was an opportunity wasted," said Bona coach Steve Campbell. "The field at this tournament was outstanding, and we didn't take advantage."
St. Bonaventure returns to action at the Cleveland State Invitational April 21-22.
