NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure University freshman Danny Gianniny has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie Golfer of the Week after helping the Bonnies to a pair of victories, conference officials announced Friday.
Gianniny earns the honor for the second time in two weeks following perhaps his best tournament as a collegiate player.
The Pittsford, N.Y. native finished tied for fourth in a field of 90 golfers at the Binghamton Intercollegiate, keying the Bonnies team victory. He opened the tournament on The Links at Hiawatha with an even-par 72, then carded 1-under 71 on Monday to finish the tournament in red figures and as one of just five players in the field to do so. It marks his best finish in four events this fall.
Tuesday, he won both points available in his Murray Cup match to help the Bonnies to an 11-5 victory over Siena at Schuyler Meadows Country Club.
For the fall, he has averaged a score of 74.3 through 12 rounds while finishing in the top three for the team in each of the previous three events.
The Bonnies are off until Oct. 19 when they will compete in the Little Three Championship at Niagara Falls Country Club.
