McKenna Named All-America Scholar
NORMAN, Okla. – St. Bonaventure senior Brian McKenna has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the 2011-12 season by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
McKenna, a finance major, carries a 3.414 GPA for his entire academic career and is coming off five top-15 finishes, including three top-10 showings, last year as a junior.
The Rochester, N.Y. native won the Medalist honors at the Little Three Championships last fall with rounds of 74-75 in extremely gusty winds. The victory at Niagara Falls Country Club qualified him for the Porter Cup, held last week at Niagara Falls C.C., where he competed in the most prestigious amateur golf tournament in the United States against the best players in the world.
McKenna shot six rounds under par this past season with the Bonnies and had a stroke average of 75.56 encompassing 27 rounds during the fall and spring semesters.
A total of 146 players in Division I earned the honor. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must meet the following criteria:
^ Be a junior or senior academically
^ Compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level
^ Participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds
^ Have a stroke average under 76
^ Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2
^ Be of high moral character and in good standing at his college or university
